The XII Symposium on Virtual and Augmented Reality
(SVR 2010), traditionally sponsored by the Brazilian
Computer Society (SBC), is the major event on Virtual and
Augmented Reality in Brazil, having stablished itself as an
international scientific forum for the exchange of experience
and knowledge among researchers, professionals, practitioners,
students and developers concerned with research and development
of virtual environments, virtual, augmented and mixed reality
systems.
Stimulating, original and innovative research papers as well
as case studies and applications in the general field of
virtual and augmented reality should be submitted.
The Program Committee invites authors to contribute with the
submissions of Tutorials Proposals on subjects related to
programming languages tools, environments or theories, at
graduate level, and of Technical Papers introducing original
research results on the following topics (but are not limited
to):
- Artificial life;
- Augmented and mixed reality;
- Collaborative virtual environments;
- Hardware graphics acceleration;
- Image based modeling and rendering;
- Innovative 3D input and output devices;
- Innovative 3D interaction techniques;
- Interactive modeling, rendering and animation;
- Internet-based 3D applications;
- Multimodal Interaction;
- Multi-resolution modeling and rendering;
- Networked virtual environments;
- Real-time simulation, animation and visualization;
- Real-time graphics techniques;
-
Social, economical and technical impacts of virtual reality;
- Tele-collaboration and teleoperation;
- Video-based interaction;
- Virtual humans and avatars;
- Virtual and augmented reality applications in any area;
-

Call for technical minicourses
Submission deadline: February 8th, 2010
Minicourses aim at promoting abilities specialization, as well as
amplifying participants' education/research perspectives.
Therefore, SVR 2010 minicourse proposals should be planned aiming
at presenting to the community current subjects (intermediary and
advanced) related to the areas of Virtual and Augmented Reality.
Minicourses should be written in English or Portuguese. Authors
may define their presentation layout and a topic based content
for proposal acceptance. However, a full text must be submitted
for a final acceptance. Accepted minicourses will be published as
an e-book with ISBN. The proposals submitted will we evaluated b
referees according to the relevance of subject, innovative
aspects, previous minicourses presented at SVR, content and final
text. The authors should write their contribution (final text)
folowing the SBC book chapter, avaliable for downloading below.
Proposal submissions must follow the template at SVR2010 website
and they must be sent by email to Liliane Machado (liliane
at di.ufpb.br) with copy to Robson Siscoutto
(robson at unic.br), and must contain [SVR-Minicourses]
in the message's subject.

Call for chapters for the Pre-Symposium book
Submission deadline: January 16th, 2010
The Pre-Symposium was first held in SVR 2004, and since then, its
main goal was to offer a fast and comprehensive course on the main
concepts and technologies of Virtual Reality and Augmented
Reality. Its first presentation in 2004 has been very successful,
leading to its continuity by CERV.
In the first edition, as well as in all of the other editions of
the Pre-Symposium, the evaluations were very positive, and both
the presented lectures as well as the generation of digital and
printed material encouraged new researchers to work in the field.
The Virtual and Augmented Reality community is young, small and in
constant evolution, and it needs to continue attracting more
researchers to expand their scientific horizons. On other hand,
the available information on the Internet contribute to attract
new researchers and assist in their basic formation in the areas
of Virtual and Augmented Reality. Summarizing, the professionals,
researchers, educators and students already arrive at the event
with a minimum base of knowledge in the areas.
Working on these both fronts, the Pre-Symposium chairs of SVR 2010
considered that this edition could focus on the event in an area
which could attract more the local public. For this reason, the
chairs propose for this edition as the main subject of the
Pre-Symposium: interaction. It will be given
priority for courses which, in addition to the basic concepts,
bring to the public practical motivational experiences.
As in previous editions, we intend to generate a reference
material composed by basic texts exploring the main concepts of
interaction on Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.
